Stage 1:

The plan that you hatched with Carlo has you getting aboard the trading vessel 'Peregrin's Talon' which follows the same paths as the smuggling ships from Knollwich. However, to avoid more surprise visitors at the tavern, you've agreed to masquerade as a spice merchant. You approach the guard at the front gate and show him your paperwork.

Huge Success(x1):
During the process that allows you entry he suddenly stops, "The Peregrin's Talon is due to leave at noon, you best hurry if you want to make it." He reaches into his pocket and stamps your paperwork with a seal. "Show this to the customs officer and it should help you get boarded in time." You head straight to the front of the customs queue with your already stamped paperwork and are waved straight onto the pontoon.
Skip to Stage 3 of encounter.
Success(x2):
He waves you through with only a passing glance at your forged papers.
Proceed to stage 2 of encounter.
Failure(x1):
It appears that Carlo's work forging your papers isn't up to snuff. The guard summons officers to search you and your goods. You flee the scene before those reinforcements arrive to apprehend you. Having failed to get aboard your target you leave Estersea to return another day.

Stage 2:

You enter the long queue to clear customs. You can expect a more thorough examination of your pretense here.

Success(x2):
The customs officer inspects your paperwork and shows a vague interest in your cargo but soon grants you access to the pontoons of the wharf.
Proceed to stage 3 of encounter.
Failure(x2):
You stumble over the names of plants and herbs that you barely remember, some of which you're sure you made up. The Captain sees through your ruse immediately, "I do not know who you are, but you are no merchant, and I will not offer passage to liars as they also tend to be thieves, cowards or worse." Having failed to get aboard your target you leave Estersea to return another day.

Stage 3:

A booming shout halts your cargo being loaded into the hold of the 'Talon', it's captain approaches. "I am Captain Brauger. I did not recognise your name or that of your guild on the manifest. We see very few spice merchants from the Fire Isles here in Estersea, if you're going to sail with us then I need to know some more about you."

Success(x1):
You parlay what little you know of ember seeds into a string of compliments regarding the quality of Captain Brauger's ship and point out that the Captain's skepticism is a sign of his professionalism. Your cargo is swiftly loaded and you set sail. Out on the sea, the Peregrin's route quickly meets up with that of the smugglers. Captain Brauger notices how closely you're watching it. "Do not worry my friend, those brigands will not attack us, they have their own cargo to worry about..." Suddenly, out of the water spring the tentacles of The Kraken, blanketing the smuggler's boat with a ferocious speed. The smugglers aboard leap into the water to find safety. Unfortunately for you, their nearest refuge is the Peregrin's Talon. Soon bandits are boarding from all sides, intent on commandeering the ship to make up for the one they just lost to the Kraken.
Draw 2 monster cards.
You direct Captain Brauger to get all his crew and passengers below deck and you ready the weapons you smuggled aboard.
(After combat)With the ship safe once again, you confess to Captain Brauger that you were in fact here investigating the smuggling boats and their connection to the Kraken. "I'll consider you saving the ship a fair trade for your lies!"
Acquire card's token.
Failure(x3):
