You find a casket buried in the sands. As you reach for it, a voice calls out, "Stranger, stay your hand! That casket bears the cursed Serpent's Mark!"

  • A) Open it.
    • Failure x2:
      You cautiously break open the seal, releasing a burst of stale, dusty air. There is nothing inside.
    • Huge Failure x1:
      You cautiously break open the seal, releasing a burst of stale, dusty air. Suddenly, a scorpion falls onto your arm.
      • Without Toxic Blood blessing
        The scorpion stings you and then falls into the sand.
        Draw 2 Pain cards
      • With Toxic Blood blessing
        The scorpion stings you and seconds later dies to your toxic blood.
    • Success x1:
      You cautiously break open the seal, releasing a burst of stale, dusty air. Inside you find some loot. "Oh," exclaims the old man, "my mistake. That's just a treasure jar."
      Draw 1 Gain Card.
      Acquire card's token.
    • Huge Success:
      To your surprise, a magical spirit bursts from the casket in a cloud of purple smoke. "I am free! the apparition declares, as the stranger flees in terror.
      Acquire card's token.
      The spirit's gaze slowly comes to rest upon you.
      • Aa) Demand a reward.
        • Failure x2:
          Draw 1 curse.
        • Huge Failure x1:
          "I'm not that kind of magical spirit.", the spirit explains as he empties your supplies, curses you twice and then vanishes.
          Draw 2 Curse Cards.
          Lose all food and gold.
        • Success x1:
          "And what would a mortal seek from one such as I?" the creature asks, amused. The spirit watches you with an evil glint in his eye.
          • Aa1) Ask for greater health.
            (Increases max health by 10, but gives the Blighted curse, preventing you from being healed)
          • Aa2) Ask for riches.
            "As you wish." the creature mutters, and waves his hand. Everything you own suddenly turns into gold and you fall face first onto the sand!
            Lose all items including unequipped items
            "You hear the spirit chuckling as he flies away and you struggle to free yourself from your golden clothes.
            • Success x2
              You manage to get yourself out of your golden gear. Dragging the gold behind, you slowly walk - naked - out of the desert. Back in town, you sell your golden gear and buy some clothes.
              ???, I gained 250 gold and lost 50% health.
            • Huge Fail x2
              You are unable to free yourself from your golden prison. Dragging yourself through the desert, you eventually pass out. You wake up in a foreign town, your golden clothes gone.
              Encounter ends.
          • Aa3) Ask for a weapon.
            The evil spirit conjures a weapon out of thin air and suddenly impales you with it! "You are welcome! he says, flying away.
            Lose X health. Draw Y weapon cards. (lost 80 health, gained 2 weapons)
      • Ab) Humbly request a favour.
        • Huge Success x1:
          "As you wish, mortal." the spirit says, and waves his hand. Then he dissappears. You feel stronger!
          Gain X Max Health.
        • Success x2:
          "Very well then, insect." the spirit says, and waves his hand to bless you. Then he disappears.
          Draw one blessing card.
        • Failure x1:
          "I bet it was you who trapped me in there in the first place!" the spirit roars, and waves his hand. You feel weaker.
          Lose X Max Health.
      • Ac) Flee.
        You turn and run into the desert.
        Encounter Ends.
  • B) Sell it.
    • Success x2:
      Do not worry, stranger. I shall hide this evil deep in catacombs of ever-increasing complexity, filled with deadly creatures and lethal traps.
      Draw 1 Gold Gain Card.
    • Failure x2:
      The stranger takes the jar, handing over a few coins. To your surprise, he immediately opens it, but is disappointed to find nothing inside. "Blast! I'll never find it!" he mutters, walking away.
      Gain 3 gold.
  • C) Leave it.
    Do not worry, stranger. I shall hide this evil deep in catacombs of ever-increasing complexity, filled with deadly creatures and lethal traps.
    Event ends.
